“Mr Murphy”

April 28, 2008

Something finally happened today…..I think I finally accepted being called “Mr Murphy”. Sure, I was used to it at restaurants and stores when my credit card was handed back to me after a purchase or meal. A smiling face walks up, hands back the Mastercard and says ” Thank you My Murphy–have a nice day.”

But I was still resisting the casual “Mr Murphy” from younger coworkers and business people who assume that I am older. I will be 40 this year….may as well let a few “Mr Murphy’s ” slide. Sure – I’d rather a “Murph” or “Murphy” , or even a “Bob”. …BUT…

It’s happening. The college grad. The intern. The new coworkers…”Nice to meet you Mr Murphy”…”Mr Murphy, can I ask you a question?”

What the heck. I’ve been called worse names in the past. In school..at certain family gatherings…My Murphy ain’t so bad.

Give it another 10 years….I’m sure I will tell someone ” that’s M-I-S-T-E-R Murphy please….” :-)
